NerdBuddy is a browser extension that lets you select a visible math problem from a webpage or PDF preview and ask for an AI-generated solution. This policy explains the data NerdBuddy processes for the extension, account features, Premium access, contact forms, support, and the public website.
NerdBuddy's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google account data is used only to sign you in, identify your account, manage solve limits, and connect your account to Premium access.
Extension data
NerdBuddy processes the screenshot area you mark with Select Area. The extension is built around explicit user selection, not background reading of every page you visit.
AI requests may include answer style, response language, model profile, and basic capture metadata such as image size and format.
If you sign in with Google, NerdBuddy receives basic profile data such as email, name, Google account ID, and profile image URL.
NerdBuddy stores account status, solve counts, quota information, Premium status, subscription IDs, invoice IDs, and related billing event records. NerdBuddy does not collect card numbers or payment credentials.
If you report an issue inside the extension, NerdBuddy may store your selected category, comment, reported task image, answer context, account summary, extension version, and browser user agent for up to 30 days. If you use the website contact form, NerdBuddy processes the email address, topic, and message you choose to provide.
The extension stores local preferences such as language, theme, shortcut preference, install ID, session token, and cached account state in Chrome storage.
How data is used
- To send the selected crop to AI and return a solution, explanation, transcription, or final answer.
- To authenticate users and keep account sessions active.
- To enforce anonymous, Free, and Premium solve limits.
- To manage checkout, renewals, failed payments, cancellations, and Premium access.
- To detect abuse, debug service errors, and keep the service reliable.
- To review user-submitted feedback and support requests.
- To reply to website contact form submissions and route support topics.
Service providers
NerdBuddy uses third-party providers only as needed to provide the extension and related services.
- OpenAI processes selected image crops and prompts to generate math solutions.
- Google provides OAuth sign-in and basic Google profile information after you consent to sign in.
- Lemon Squeezy handles Premium checkout and sends NerdBuddy subscription, invoice, and payment status events.
- Vercel hosts backend APIs and production infrastructure.
- KV-compatible storage stores account, session, usage, subscription, and event records.
- Web3Forms delivers website contact form submissions to the NerdBuddy support inbox.
Website analytics
The public website at getnerdbuddy.com uses Google Analytics and DataFast to understand aggregate visits and basic site interactions on pages such as home, onboarding, offboarding, contact, privacy, and terms. These website analytics are separate from the extension's math-solving flow.
Google Analytics may use first-party cookies such as _ga, plus device/browser data and on-site activity events. DataFast may use cookies and IP addresses through its analytics script. You can control cookies in your browser settings. Blocking analytics cookies should not prevent the extension from solving selected math problems.
What NerdBuddy does not do
- NerdBuddy does not sell personal data.
- NerdBuddy does not use selected screenshot content, Google account data, or solve history for personalized advertising.
- NerdBuddy does not automatically read every page you visit for unrelated purposes.
- NerdBuddy does not collect card numbers, bank account details, credit scores, or financial statements.
- NerdBuddy does not intentionally send selected screenshots, math prompts, Google account profile data, subscription records, or support message contents to website analytics tools.
- NerdBuddy does not allow humans to read user data except where necessary for user-requested support, security, legal compliance, or aggregated internal operations.
Retention and deletion
Account, session, subscription, quota, and usage records are retained as long as needed to provide the service, manage Premium access, comply with billing records, prevent abuse, and support user requests. User-submitted extension feedback reports are configured to expire after 30 days. Website contact form messages are kept as long as needed to respond, resolve issues, improve support quality, and maintain reasonable records. You may request account deletion or deletion of support messages through the contact page. Some subscription and billing records may need to be retained where legally or operationally required.
Security
NerdBuddy transmits data over HTTPS and keeps backend secrets out of the browser extension package. Authentication tokens and payment webhook secrets are handled server-side. No internet service can be guaranteed perfectly secure, but NerdBuddy is designed to limit data use to the extension's math-solving purpose.
Children and school use
NerdBuddy is a homework and math-solving tool. If you use NerdBuddy in a school, classroom, or with minors, you are responsible for making sure that use complies with applicable school, parent, and legal requirements.

This policy may be updated when the product, providers, or legal requirements change. The updated date at the top of this page reflects the latest version.
